Community and Business

[APPLICATIONS PERIOD CLOSED]

On Tuesday, 18th February, the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ) began accepting applications for the 2025-2026 BCCJ Executive Committee (Excom). This article provides everything you need to know about the upcoming elections, what serving on the BCCJ’s Excom entails, and why you may wish to consider joining to help guide one of Japan’s most dynamic and influential business organisations in the year ahead.

Why Apply?

Serving as a member of the BCCJ’s Excom is a unique opportunity to lead and develop initiatives that strengthen the UK-Japan commercial relationship at a pivotal time. While the role requires energy, dedication, and commitment, it is an incredibly rewarding way to give back to the community and foster business growth between the two nations.

Role of the Executive Committee

The Excom is a group of 12-15 current BCCJ members elected by the wider membership to address key issues and strategise on providing modern, effective, and inclusive services for all BCCJ members. Excom sets the BCCJ’s overall purpose and direction, determining how best to meet the needs of its membership over the coming year. Working closely with the BCCJ’s Executive Director, the Excom’s core responsibilities include:

  • Defining suitable organisational aims and objectives;

  • Setting an annual budget that supports the BCCJ’s purpose;

  • Establishing policies, targets, and priorities; and

  • Monitoring and reviewing the performance of the BCCJ and its Secretariat.

Each Excom member will be assigned to one of the following task forces: Membership, Communications, or Events – all key pillars of the Chamber’s service to its members. Additionally, Excom will continue to support the BCCJ's commitments of initiatives around Responsible Business, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), Digital & Tech Innovation, and Government Relations.
